OCD Awareness Week October 13-19

OCD is highly treatable. The key is knowing what treatment is scientifically proven to work! Regular talk therapy is not effective for OCD and can even make OCD worse. The gold-standard treatment for OCD is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). These treatments have demonstrated effectiveness in treating OCD and related disorders across all age groups, even via telehealth. The clinicians at AATC are experts in CBT and ERP and will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is personalized and comfortable for you.

ERP therapy teaches you how to break the cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors and manage your OCD thoughts, images, and urges so they stop bothering you. Essentially, you will “retrain” your brain to change your fear response and correct “false alarms” that can keep you stuck in an OCD loop. In ERP you learn to:

– Challenge your OCD mind when it tells you that you need to be afraid or do a behavior to keep yourself safe.

– Overcome your fear and regain the control that OCD tries to take away. 

– Move through fear and rely on healthier responses.

– Become more capable of managing your anxiety.
